Your Frequently Asked Questions Answered

Do I need a referral to see a doctor at Vesta?

Yes. A referral from your GP is required to see one of our specialist doctors. This allows you to access Medicare rebates for eligible consultations and helps us understand your medical background before your visit.

What conditions do you treat?

Vesta supports a wide array of women’s health and fertility concerns, including pelvic pain, endometriosis, PCOS, fibroids, ovarian cysts, hormonal health, perimenopause and menopause, PMDD/PMS, fertility challenges, heavy bleeding, vulvovaginal conditions, menstrual disorders, vaginal prolapse, urinary incontinence and many more.

How long are appointments?

Initial consultations are typically 45–60 minutes, allowing time to explore your history, symptoms, and health goals in detail. Follow-up appointments are usually shorter, although longer consultations can be arranged when needed.

Collaborative Therapies

How can Lifestyle medicine support hormone balance?

Lifestyle medicine practitioners may use evidence-based nutrition, herbal medicine, targeted supplementation, and lifestyle strategies to support hormonal health. These approaches can help regulate cycles, reduce PMS or perimenopausal symptoms, and support the body’s natural rhythms alongside medical care.

Can dieticians support or improve fertility outcomes?

Yes. Nutrition plays an important role in reproductive health, influencing ovulation, egg quality, sperm health, metabolic balance, and IVF outcomes. Our dietitians can help optimise nutrition, address deficiencies, and support overall wellbeing to create the best possible foundation for conception.

How does holistic care improve overall health?

When nutrition and lifestyle medicine are integrated with medical care, people often experience improvements in energy, digestion, stress resilience, and immune function. This whole-person approach doesn’t just treat symptoms — it supports long-term wellbeing.

Do I have to see the allied practitioners as well as the Doctors at Vesta?

Not at all. Allied & Holistic health therapies are optional but available if they could enhance your care. Many women find physiotherapy, naturopathy, acupuncture, or nutritional support valuable alongside gynaecological or fertility treatment.

Menstrual & Hormonal Conditions

What is menorrhagia, and can you help?

Menorrhagia refers to unusually heavy or prolonged menstrual bleeding. At Vesta we take time to investigate the underlying cause, which may include hormonal imbalance, fibroids, polyps, bleeding disorders, adenomyosis, or endometriosis.

Once the cause is understood, we work with you to develop a personalised plan to restore balance and improve quality of life.

Why are my periods irregular?

Irregular cycles can occur for many reasons including hormonal changes, stress, PCOS, thyroid disorders, weight changes, or perimenopause. At Vesta we focus on understanding the underlying cause rather than simply regulating the cycle, so that treatment can be personalised and effective.

How do you manage PMS and PMDD?

PMS (Premenstrual Syndrome) and PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder) can significantly affect mood, energy, and daily functioning.

At Vesta we offer both medical and integrative approaches, which may include hormonal therapies, lifestyle interventions, nutritional support, and targeted supplementation. Our aim is to reduce symptoms and help you feel more balanced throughout your cycle.

What about menstrual abnormalities?

Irregular, painful, or absent periods are often your body’s way of signalling that something may be out of balance. This can relate to conditions such as PCOS, hormonal changes, stress, inflammation, or structural causes within the uterus or ovaries.

At Vesta, we take the time to explore the underlying reasons behind your symptoms rather than simply treating the cycle itself. By understanding your hormones, lifestyle, medical history, and the wider picture of your health, we create a personalised plan to support balance, improve symptoms, and help you better understand what your cycle may be communicating about your wellbeing.

What causes painful periods?

Painful periods can occur due to prostaglandin release during menstruation, but they may also be associated with conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids, or pelvic inflammation. If period pain is interfering with daily life, it is worth seeking medical assessment.

Conditions Affecting Fertility & Reproductive Health

When should I seek help for fertility concerns?

If you have been trying to conceive for 12 months (or 6 months if over 35) without success, it may be helpful to seek specialist advice. You may also benefit from earlier assessment if you have irregular cycles, known endometriosis, PCOS, previous pelvic surgery, or a history of miscarriage. Early evaluation can often provide reassurance and help guide the next steps.

Do you offer fertility investigations and IVF support?

Yes. At Vesta we provide comprehensive fertility assessment including hormonal evaluation, ultrasound assessment, ovulation tracking, and investigation of underlying causes of infertility. If IVF or assisted reproductive technologies are required, we can guide you through this process and coordinate care with our fertility provider, Monash IVF.

Can you help with recurrent miscarriage?

Yes. Recurrent pregnancy loss can be both physically and emotionally challenging. At Vesta we take a careful and thorough approach to investigating potential causes, which may include genetic, anatomical, hormonal, immune, or lifestyle factors. Our goal is to identify treatable contributors and support your journey towards a healthy pregnancy.

Can you assist with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)?

Absolutely. PCOS can affect hormone levels, periods, fertility, and metabolism. At Vesta, we provide compassionate, evidence-based care—including medical and lifestyle strategies—to help you manage symptoms and support your reproductive health.

Do you treat pelvic pain or endometriosis?

Yes. Chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis are common reasons women seek care at Vesta. We take a comprehensive approach that may include medical treatment, imaging, surgical options when appropriate, and collaborative care with pelvic physiotherapists and other allied practitioners.

What if I have fibroids or ovarian cysts?

Fibroids and ovarian cysts can cause pain, bleeding, or fertility challenges. We use imaging and medical history to identify these issues and offer solutions such as medical management, monitoring, or surgical options where appropriate.

What tests are done for fertility investigations?

Fertility evaluation often includes hormone blood tests, pelvic ultrasound, ovulation assessment, and sometimes imaging of the fallopian tubes. Male partner is also recommended. These investigations help identify potential barriers to conception and guide treatment options.

Screening, Prolapse & Pelvic Floor Health

What happens with an abnormal cervical screening result?

An abnormal result very rarely means cancer—it may indicate minor cellular changes. We can provide colposcopy and, if necessary, biopsy or treatment, ensuring you understand each step clearly and with compassion.

Can you help with prolapse or urinary incontinence?

Yes. Pelvic organ prolapse and urinary incontinence are common and treatable. We partner with pelvic health physiotherapists and offer both conservative and surgical options tailored to your symptoms and lifestyle.

Can you help with bladder symptoms or urinary leakage?

Yes. Symptoms such as urinary urgency, frequency, or incontinence are common and can often improve with the right treatment. Management may include pelvic floor physiotherapy, lifestyle strategies, medications, or further assessment when required.

Vulval & Vulvovaginal Conditions

What are vulval conditions, and can you help?

Vulval conditions—such as lichen sclerosus, vulval pain (vulvodynia and vaginismus), infections, or chronic irritation—can be painful and isolating. Vesta provides sensitive, expert diagnosis and a compassionate, effective care plan to support comfort and healing.

Menopause & Hormonal Transition

What support is offered for perimenopause and menopause?

Perimenopause and Menopause can bring unpredictable and sometimes debilitating symptoms—from hot flushes and sleep disruption to mood changes and vaginal discomfort. At Vesta we provide personalised care which may include lifestyle strategies, hormonal therapies, and non-hormonal options, depending on your individual needs, to help you move through this natural transition with more ease, clarity, and vitality.

Vesta Care Philosophy

What makes Vesta different from a standard clinic?

Vesta was created as a space where specialist medical care and holistic health support work together. Our consultations allow time to explore the deeper contributors to symptoms while offering evidence-based medical care alongside collaborative therapies when appropriate. The aim is to support you not only through illness or ailments, but towards long-term wellbeing.

Can I attend Vesta even if I don’t have a specific diagnosis?

Absolutely. Many women come to Vesta because they feel something is not quite right but don’t yet have a clear diagnosis. We welcome these conversations and take time to listen, investigate when needed, and support you in understanding your health more clearly.
